Creative Mentoring with young people @The Make it Studio- Buxton

Supporting young people and children through Derbyshire County Council's Virtual School. As a Creative Mentor I work alongside the young person or child to draw out their potential, talents and interests. Our Creative Mentor service facilitates learning and new skills, development of confidence, self belief and well being.

Opportunities to talk while making and creating art is both therapeutic and useful for the young person. Making sense of thoughts feelings and ideas helps us move forward.

Making art together, enjoying colour and a sensory experience can shift difficult feelings.

'Make it' Buxton

'Make it' Buxton is a local project providing creative support and cultural experiences for young people living in care, and for care leavers living in the Buxton area. Lead artist and project director Claire Parker has developed partnerships with Buxton Opera House and The Green Man Gallery where work experience opportunities has led to work and training.
The 'Make it' project has grown from Derbyshire County Council's innovative Creative Mentor work in collaboration with 3 other Creative Mentor's from The Amber Factory- an organisation set up to plug gaps in creative provision for young people in care.
