Curating Art Exhibitions
I have always felt that there is often something missing when viewing art in a gallery. When I view a painting that overwhelms me with dread or joy, beauty or fear I want to know more than its title, I want to know why the artist did it and how. Van Gogh’s ‘Cornfield’ is one of the most powerful paintings I have ever seen in the flesh and when I later researched it I found out why.
Here was an opportunity to view a collection of paintings by local artists and understand a little bit about what is behind them.
This was the first of a series of exhibitions showcasing artists who through their work express something of themselves and their sport. I hope that you will glimpse how the experience captured in the paintings shape the art work in more ways than just the theme, in the choice of medium, technique and size of paper or canvas used. The artist may have a favourite medium which they have over time come to use as it helps to express their ideas most appropriately and the process of the painting or work may play a big part in bringing the moment alive again. Art is a universal language communicating and interpreting shared experiences and ideas with infinite possibilities. Art for sale is clearly labelled and can be purchased through Claire Parker or the artists themselves.

As the art event coordinator for this event I was thrilled to bits with our exhibition when it finally came together. Geoff did wonders getting all our creative minds to focus on the job in hand.
As a keen competitive fellrunner I submitted several paintings of my own of memorable races, both acrylic and emulsion on canvas- in a poster style.

'Running Wild' was a month long exhibition of original art by fellrunners of fellrunning at The Green Man Gallery in Buxton . The preview event was supported by Boff Whalley lead guitarist of Chumbawumba a lovely bloke who added depth and musical richness to our fell running theme.

Care home for elderly residents
Over a two week period 15 ladies engaged in the process of felt making and produced two beautiful felt works to display in their sitting room. Using rubbing and rolling techniques we reminisced about pastry making and baking.

The Wednesday Group
Work with older participants in the community
This group meet weekly and have kindly invited me on a number of occasions to provide creative sessions for the members. Art and craft afternoons have included flower arranging for Easter table decorations, ceramic painted gifts for Christmas and felt making. The dexterity and mobility of some of the older members are considered and activities are adapted to ensure that the sessions are inclusive and enjoyable for all.

Hospice work: supporting wellbeing
I worked at The East Cheshire Hospice as a trainee Art Psychotherapist. I worked with a number of individuals using art to explore aspects of themselves and their changing circumstances. I provided a variety of materials and mediums for clients and participants to work with, including wool and the felt making process, painting, drawing and pottery
Community Art Projects for children and families
Crafty Kids- a four year art group project funded by Derbyshire Community Foundation fund. Providing support for families and young children in a semi rural area of Derbyshire supporting creativity and experiential learning in a safe and social environment, set up and facilitated by Claire Parker local artist and creative practitioner.
Community art projects
A two year community art project supporting social cohesion through weekly art and craft activities. Funded by the Peoples health trust in association with the Health Lottery.The project is delivered by a group of volunteers from the New Mills Womens group, facilitated and led by artist Claire Parker. The participants are encouraged contribute ideas and thoughts on planning the art activities- where we have had clay work sessions, made loom bands, dreamcatchers and wands, began to make a map of the area and done some amazing junk modelling- see our Facebook page for updates.

New Mills Lantern Procession September 2014: Our Sunday community art group made a lantern display over a 3 week period that 5,500 visitors admired and photographed, we made lanterns to the food and drink theme and used idioms to describe our pieces e.g. a piece of cake- a can of worms- full of beans and a fish out of water.
