My career as an artist has spanned nearly 30 years. I began work as a freelance scenic artist/ prop maker for TV and theatre, interiors and the commercial sector after training and study in Historic Decorative Crafts, specialising in paint techniques and mural work. Since then I have transferred my experience as a working artist in schools and nurseries, through projects, workshops, after school clubs and staff support, training and development. I have extended my own training into childhood studies and psychotherapy and I qualified and registered as a Health Care Professional in 2014. I work with a variety of clients to support emotional and social wellbeing through the creative processes of making art. I am also an associate art psychotherapist with Adoption Focus in the East Midlands using my experience and knowledge around issues of attachment and early trauma to inform my practice and support families and children who are experiencing difficulty. I have over 20 years experience of working with children and families providing creative opportunities, community cohesion and therapeutic experiences. I deliver training to support new creative mentors to the mentoring service through DCC and TMC (The Mighty Creatives across the East and West Midlands). My training also supports staff in primary schools as part of Make It Creative Support- Art therapy service. As the director of Make It Creative Support Ltd started in 2020 I hope to develop art therapy services through schools in Derbyshire, promoting wellbeing and supporting mental health through creativity and the arts.

2008: A multi media mural measuring 11ft x 8ft commissioned by Northern Rail, Hope Valley Transport and East Midlands Tourism to commemorate the Mass Trespass of Kinder Scout 1932. Includes mosaic, handmade ceramic pieces and painted tiles and acrylic on board. The work is on permanent public display in the waiting room area of New Mills Central Station 9-1pm weekdays.

Felted and freestyle sewing textile of summer wild flowers
4ft x 4ft painting and inlaid mosaic pieces in the style of Gustav Klimt. Commissions range from painted canvas, decorative ceramic and mosiac work and framed drawings to mural work on walls and ceilings, and larger panel paintings. Having worked as a scenic artist in TV and theatre for many years making props, designing sets and painting pantomine backdrops I work with a variety of materials and techniques. I use some of these skills in interior work too.
Egg Tempera painted Tryptic- Handcarved Chestnut frame and carved tracery
Inspired by Fra Angelico's musician angels of Florence- Italy
Measuring approx 3 ft sq this piece was a painstaking example of each process of the medieval artist working on boards with many grounding layers of gesso and a clay base for burnished gold leaf. The painted figures demonstrate the vibrancy of natural powder colour ground with a muller and tempered with egg yolk and distilled water, a delightful medium... like painting with silk- Cennino Cennini's 15th century artists handbook guided me through step by step! The pure gold leaf was applied using a water gilding technique and burnished with a dog tooth burnisher.

Using my sketchbook as a recording medium to document ideas and thoughts that came up during a project working for 'Arthur and Martha' community artists on their Homeless project 'The warm & the cold' 2012. Repeated themes came up each week with various participants. Using art to communicate and supporting the ideas and thoughts of those who are often marginalised by society. Capturing words on pottery pieces, quotes and stories stitched on blankets and quilts.
