 Creating  Spaces

A Community-led Art Project: every Sunday

  www.facebook.com/creatingspacesnewmillseast

A quick summary of the last 6 mths of Creating Spaces- a 2 year community art project funded by the Peoples Health Trust and The Health Lottery Fund. Working in a specified geographic area this project was set up by the New Mills Women's Group to breakdown isolation and promote social cohesion within the community.

I work for the group as the lead artist facilitating the sessions each week and supporting individuals and families to engage with art materials in creative and exciting ways.

The photos show a few of the project requested by those who attend the sessions.Weaving and making magic wands were really popular at our outdoor summer fun day event.

We ran clay workshops for 6 weeks learning
new skills and improving confidence with new art materials. Everyone is encouraged to have a go. There are opportunities for participants to
use their own imagination and express ideas of their own. Fruit bowls, cups and even a full english cooked breakfast were made and given
as a fathers day gift.

The Mexican dreamcatchers were beautiful, the kids and mums were really proud of their work.

Junk modelling is an ongoing activity that participants can use each week- our mini project is to build our own village with houses made of cardboard, tissue and patience… hopefully the building will all come together in our exhibition in the autumn time.. watch this space.

Every Sunday at Low Leighton Methodist Church 2.30-4.30 all welcome- bring a neighbours, friends or grandparents, enjoy making and creating, working together and meeting new people…. see u there
